Our Cacao

From a cooperative of family farms in Ecuador comes this creamy, naturally nutty ceremonial cacao.
These beans are known for their exceptional quality and unique fermentation process, which creates a delicate almond-like depth and smooth flavor in every cup.

Munay Medicine Cacao carries the prayers and energies of both the South and the North — bridging worlds.
The final stages of stone-grinding and light roasting happen in Sweden by a small, family-owned business: a woman who breathes, lives, and pours her heart into crafting chocolate where the main ingredient is love — and you can taste it.

Every block of cacao is blessed and prayed over in ceremony so the medicine reaches the hearts of those who need it

Is cacao safe in pregnancy?

Yes — in small amounts. Many pregnant women enjoy cacao safely. A light dose (10–15g) is usually well-tolerated, gentle on the body, and offers minerals and nourishment.

Can I drink cacao daily?

Yes. A daily dose of 15–20g is completely fine for most people.Ceremonial doses are meant for deeper journeys, but small daily amounts are beautiful for grounding, mood, and gentle energy.

How much cacao is a ceremonial dose?

A ceremonial dose is 30–40g, depending on your body, sensitivity, and intention.
For beginners, 25–30g is a beautiful place to start.

What if I’m taking antidepressants?

Most people on antidepressants can drink cacao safely.
Only one category that requires caution: MAOIs, which are rarely prescribed today.
If you're taking a common antidepressant like SSRIs or SNRIs, cacao is usually fine — just start with a light dose and listen to your body.

A simple rule:
If your doctor has told you to avoid chocolate, avoid ceremonial cacao too.

Does cacao contain caffeine?

Cacao contains very little caffeine (much less than coffee or even black tea).
Its energizing effect comes mainly from theobromine, which gives a gentle, steady rise in energy without the crash.

Is cacao good for anxiety?

Yes — cacao can be soothing and regulating for many people.
It supports the nervous system, increases blood flow, and helps the body shift into a more open, grounded state.
If you’re very sensitive, start with a small dose and go slowly.

Is your cacao fair trade and ethically sourced?

Yes — and even more than that.
Our cacao is ethically sourced, organically certified, and purchased at prices far above standard fair-trade rates.

We choose not to carry the “Fair Trade” label because the certification would actually lower the standards we already hold.
By working with small family farms and cooperatives, we ensure farmers are paid significantly higher than fair-trade minimums, honoring their craft, land, and ancestral knowledge.
